Compiled RPG demo and AI?
« on: November 25, 2010, 02:44:32 pm »

Is there a pre-compiled version of the RPG demo included in the source? I would like to see FIFE's features in action.

Also, does FIFE include a basic AI for opponents, or would the AI need to be created from scratch?

(For instance, the Xconq strategy game builder did not require designers to write their own AI - the AI apparently being able to adapt itself to each situation based on unit strengths and capabilities, as well as troop carriers and amphibious assaults.)

Precompiled as in running without having a Python distro installed? Nope, that's not the case though it wouldn't be that hard to create something like that with py2exe.

However the win32 installer is quite easy to use:

Simply install ActivePython 2.7 and download the FIFE 0.3.2 win32 installer after that:

Concerning AI support: right now the only AI-related code is the pathfinder AFAIK. FIFE was created with flexibility in mind, so it's hard to imagine how generic AI support should look like beyond pathfinding purposes. We're open to all kind of suggestions, so if you propose an AI feature that would be valuable for different kind of games, I'm sure the devs will consider adding it to FIFE.
