I know you are probably tired of a newbie asking a general question like this, and I'm sorry.

Yet I must know if I can use fife to make a game like Super Robot Wars, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars where the battle takes place in a cinematic way, instead of the fallout direct way.

Thank you for your time ant tolerance.

Hi DaiZengar,

The short answer is yes FIFE could do that for you.

The long answer is yes it could do that but not without a lot of work on your side.  What I would imagine you would do is have 2 different maps types.  One would be your regular isometric view, the other would be used for the cinematic battle sequences.  You would switch between them as you need.  The cinematics would all have to be coded by you as we have nothing that does anything like that at the moment.  I dont imagine it would be too difficult for you to get a proof of concept put together if you wanted to test it out.  If you have any questions feel free to ask!!

Moin Smiley

Just stumpled across this thread - and got an idea. The old battle isle series had a main topdown map while the battles were integrated by showing a small video within the minimap area. While FIFE for now hasn't any video support, it can load several maps simultaniously & handle different cameras.

My idea would be to load two maps and give each map one camera. The "battlemap" doesn't have to be huge - just contain some cells to place the opponents and some ground tiles and the main map could still be displayed. I havent tried it yet, but it should also be possible to resize the battlemap camera during the fight. All other features like zooming in, rotating etc. are also supported - the more I think about it, the more I like the idea Cheesy
