License Updated..
« on: April 04, 2009, 04:55:52 pm »

Can someone just simplify all this for me?  ???

1) Can we make commercial games using FIFE?

2) Can be protect the code or are supposed to make it all available to the players as open source as well?

I think I remember some softwares with LGPL license allowing developers to sell and protect the code if they want at the same time, not sure what's the case with FIFE though.

EDIT: Err.. found something interesting here;D

If you follow the rules in the FAQ you linked to you should be able to use FIFE for a commercial closed source game without any problems.

Why LGPL and not BSD?

FIFE was originally released under GPL 2.0. There were reservation among the programmers who contributed to the project to switch to a license that allows to take the code, modify it and benefit from a closed source version.

Therefore we agreed on LGPL to give game developers the chance to use FIFE without needing to open source there code when they just link against it while ensuring that modifications get contributed back to the community.
