FIFE SVN repository upgrade to Subversion 1.5
« on: July 09, 2008, 03:40:50 am »

Our SVN and trac hoster cvsdude.com just sent me a mail today stating that they offer the choice to upgrade our repository to the new SVN release 1.5.

This is basically an optional upgrade and we could stay with the current SVN release 1.4.x as well. Here is the list of improvements that comes with Subversion 1.5:

Looks like some huge improvements especially easing merging branches. Should I go ahead and upgrade our repository to the new version? Feedback please!

I agree that 1.5 does offer some much needed improvements like easier merging of branches and better archiving of history.  I personally would wait until some larger projects move to 1.5 and see how the integration of their existing branches go.  Even on the subversion site they state that not all features are fully implemented and the better merging is still not fully operational.

In case we do decide to upgrade we just need to make sure everyone knows since some things are not compatible anymore.
