Help and troubleshooting / Network Demo Part 3
« on: September 19, 2008, 07:10:45 am »
Hi again!

I decided to go through the network demo - seemed as good a place as any to start learning both Python and FIFE.  So far so good and I'm really liking this engine!

I'm getting an error on part 3 with the line...

Code: [Select]
self.fps = self.rootpanel.findChild("FPS")

Error....

Code: [Select]
  File "run.py", line 43, in __init__
    self.fps = self.rootpanel.findChild("FPS")
  TypeError: findChild() takes exactly 1 argument (2 given)

Bit confused by that because the call "self.fps = self.rootpanel.findChild("FPS")", to me, has exactly one argument and not two!

....?

Cheers!,
Gary

General discussion / Looking for Collaborators
« on: September 18, 2008, 11:58:16 am »
Hi all!,

I'm Gary, new to this forum.  Background... graduated in Comp.Sci back in 1997, worked as a software engineer ever since.... but usually business applications.  Games are more fun!

I have, at the moment, started to assemble a few people for some projects.  One chap is a Script Writer, another is quite talented in the realms of Blender.

We have two fantastic game ideas.  One I know for certain has never been done.  Another has been done but done badly about 6 years ago (great concept, delivered badly, our design beats it hands down).

So... I'm on the look out for collaborators!  In particular - artists/graphics people and music/sound gurus.  I'm quite happy to take on the lions share of the actual coding.

Interested to see if anyone hanging around here would be interested?

Kind Regards,
Gary

Help and troubleshooting / Problem with TK-RemiX
« on: September 18, 2008, 11:01:47 am »
Hi there,

New to all of this... but so far, I've managed to install and build FIFE successfully and can run the Rio De Hola demo with no problems at all.  I'm running on Ubuntu Linux 7.04 in case that helps...

I'm trying now to get the TK-RemiX game to work but I get an error when I try to launch it...

Code: [Select]
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "run.py", line 96, in <module>
    main()
  File "run.py", line 91, in main
    app = TkRDemo()
  File "run.py", line 75, in __init__
    self.world = world.World(self.engine)
  File "/home/garyr/fife/trunk/clients/tkr/scripts/world.py", line 37, in __init__
    self.metamodel = self.model.getMetaModel()
  File "../../engine/swigwrappers/python/fife.py", line 6474, in <lambda>
    __getattr__ = lambda self, name: _swig_getattr(self, Model, name)
  File "../../engine/swigwrappers/python/fife.py", line 34, in _swig_getattr
    raise AttributeError,name
AttributeError: getMetaModel
Controller: log: Destructing engine
Controller: log: ================== Engine destructed ==================

Any idea what might cause this?  I apologise, I'm as new to Python as I am to FIFE!

Kind Regards,
Gary
