As you can see here.

Chapter 2, there is nothing there....

Is it a dead project now or?

Help and troubleshooting / Using the Engine?

Okay so I downloaded the installer and installed for Windows...

I can open the MapEditor python file and I checked around inside it, haven't quite figured out how to use it yet.

Um, so how do I use FIFE? I tried going through the Git and Wiki there and maybe it's because I've had a few drinks but I'm pretty confused. I've used CMake before building Libraries for a parser for TILED used with SFML and got it to work eventually, I don't have much experience with Cmake though.

So I guess my question is. Does FIFE have a GUI like other editors like Unreal etc? Or is it purely code based? If so, how do I get it up and running with Visual Studio, (also which version of Visual Studio do I need)?

And where do I find example code, if there is any for setting up a map and placing a character inside to move around.

Once I figure all this out everything else should come pretty quickly I think.

edit** I tried the C++ tutorial found here

https://github.com/fifengine/cpp-tutorials

Buuut, when I double click Build.bat it just says

The device is not ready.
The device is not ready.
The device is not ready.
Press any key to continue...

And hit any key and it shuts down. Not really sure, I assume it has done nothing as I don't see any new files have been generated.

Introduce yourself / Hello! o7

Hello!

I've been a gamer all my life, from the old DOS games to the present, and had been a game making hobbyist, playing around with different engines and learning about code and computer science here and there. Mainly I'm an artist.

So about 2 or 3 years ago I found this Fife, didn't really know what was going on. So took some tutorials on Java game making. Then ended up heavily learning C++. I spent the last 6 months or so making quick little prototypes in SFML, a side scroller, an isometric city builder, a top down proto with projectiles, collision, damage and health etc.. Was using TILED as well to make my maps but finally ran into something I lack the knowledge for, which is being able to parse the JSON files to work with SFML... I'm running out of time and money, soooooo FIFE it is! A custom game Engine is a huge undertaking, and I don't know what I was thinking, silly me for thinking I could make one myself, even with SFML as my base.

Anyway I think I'm pretty comfortable with C++ going forward now for gameplay coding, and I've come full circle back to Fife! I will definitely be using it for my Trilogy.

I will go to the Game Creators Corner to post my questions. It's good to meet you all (just saying it ahead of time :D)
